Launch of 5G services at the same price as current 4G rates will impact the bottom lines of Indian telcos Airtel, Jio etc.
5G services offer a significant jump in speed and reliability, but they also come with an incremental cost that should be analyzed closely.
Telcos have not yet released specific pricing information. However, it is known that the cost of establishing 5G networks is significantly higher than the cost of upgrading 4G networks.
Telcos may be required to increase their prices (or ARPU) for both 4G and 5G services in order to maintain profitability.
Increasing prices for 4G or 5G pack may lead to loss of subscribers given the price sensitivity of the domestic consumers.
